There’s much pleasure to be found in conversing with someone who has found their right and proper place in the world. Licia Di Pasquale is a very friendly and chatty person who remains unassuming, whilst quietly exuding confidence in herself and her two-year-old business – Bauen Design on Hyndland Road. In Bauen Design Licia has come full circle and found her home. Let me explain.
Interior Design is Licia’s passion, she studied the art at university and subsequently won the National Interior Design Award – leading Licia nicely into a career in kitchen design with CP Hart in the city centre. In kitchen design Licia found her niche, going on to work in all aspects of the kitchen business from retail sales and design to design manager, and finally dealer manager for Poggenpohl UK.
‘I had experienced all sides of the kitchen industry,’ explains Licia. ‘And I realised that my true passion was back where I started – designing kitchens for retail clients.
‘I loved seeing projects through from start to completion while building close relationships with the clients along the way. With all of this experience it was time to open my own kitchen design studio and having worked for Poggenpohl before I knew they would be the ideal partnership for Bauen Design.’
The last two years have seen the opening of Licia’s kitchen design studio on the West End’s Hyndland Road and a very busy first year as Westenders embraced the new business. And then, yeah, 2020.
However, that’s when something interesting happened. Licia explains, ‘Over the previous year when designing kitchens for clients we were always giving them advice on other aspects within the kitchen space such as flooring, wall colours and feature lighting.
‘Clients were telling us they’d been dreaming of the perfect Instagram-able kitchen/living space, however they were nervous of trying to put it together themselves. The extra time we suddenly had around lockdowns gave us the space to realise and plan our new bespoke full interior design service.
‘We have recently project managed an entire ground floor in a property in Bearsden. The client was delighted for us to guide them and be honest about what we thought and felt would look and work best for them and their family.
‘It is a new and exciting challenge and we are continually looking for new inspiration and where we can implement fresh ideas into our clients’ homes.’
So, from the adversity 2020 set us all it is inspirational to hear of one local business who has managed to not only ride out the (continuing) storm but add another arm to their business and thrive.
With her warm and understated manner, Licia takes it all in her stride, but her passion for her product is clear. I’m excited to see what 2022 brings Licia and Bauen Design.
