Christmas Folk Concert with Phil Cunningham

By Tracy Mukherjee

Scottish folk royalty, Phil Cunningham returns to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall this December with his hugely successful Christmas Songbook show. The Christmas folk concert will see incredible guests such as Eddi Reader and Karen Matheson. The performance will be an eclectic mix of modern and traditional Christmas music.

Phil, best known as an accordionist, is a talented instrumentalist, championing traditional folk and Scottish music and bringing it to a world audience. His partnership with fiddler Aly Bain has seen the love of the genre grow from strength to strength. This in no small part down to the duo’s phenomenal talent and hilarious comradery on stage.

The Christmas show sees Phil accompanied by the one and only Eddi Reader, whose vocal talents transcend so many musical styles. Karen Matheson OBE is of course best known as the lead singer of Celtic legends Capercaillie. The line up also has some sensational music talents: Orcadian singer and guitarist Kris Drever and multi-instrumentalist John McCusker. Ian Carr, maestro of the traditional guitar will also be joined by fantastic double bassist Kevin McGuire.

The show is now in its 16th year and is always a firm family favourite. Phil is delighted to be hitting the stage again. ‘We can’t wait to hit the road and bring the Christmas Songbook to Glasgow once again. The show has grown a lot over the years and has become part of people’s festive traditions. Last year’s tour was derailed a little by Covid so we can’t wait to have a proper, long-awaited Christmas shindig at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.’

As well as Glasgow, the show will also hit Aberdeen, Perth, Stirling, Dumfries and Edinburgh. For tickets visit –
