Out on tour, the fantastic Garrett Millerick brings his hit show to The Stand this May.

Acclaimed comedian Garrett Milllerick will be appearing at The Stand this May in his hit show “Just Trying To Help”. The brilliant stand-up has been lauded by the print media, with The Scotsman writing “Has the room erupting with laughter”, awarding him a 4 star review. The show, a huge hit at the Edinburgh Fringe, sees “the world’s angriest optimist” deliver his thoughts on a multitude of topics: on the unintended consequences of doing our best and the fallout of trying to help. On religion: coming from an Irish immigrant family, being brought up catholic and even serving time as an altar boy and eucharistic minister, Garrett walked away from his faith in his teens. But will lockdown have given him time to revisit blindly following the rules of his early years now that he is…. blindly following the rules of lockdown? Is he missing the comfort of a higher power?
Fatherhood Trilogy
Just Trying To Help is the last part of Garrett’s Fatherhood Trilogy, preceded by 2018s Sunflower and 2019s Smile. His sell out shows at the Edinburgh Festival and Soho Theatre in 2022 gave way to the fiming of his live show for worldwide release. On playing in Glasgow, Garrett says, “Because of the festival, Edinburgh always gets the plaudits when it comes to comedy in Scotland and Glasgow gets overlooked, especially by English journalists. But it’s a phenomenal place for comedy. The audiences don’t let you away with anything – you’ve got to bring your a-game.’
Garrett remembers watching Stewart Lee’s DVD at The Stand years before he even got into comedy. He says “When you saw that show, it showed what a proper live comedy experience is. It blew me away. Then years later I got to play there for the first time, and it was a huge thrill. And as brilliant as that DVD is, no film can come close to capturing the magic of that room.
I can’t wait to bring my first tour there.”
