It’s that time of the year again! Summer is here, the weather is improving (we hope), which means one thing: we all want to eat and drink outside! Whether it is a quick after work pint in a beer garden or dining with friends in the sunshine, these are some of our favourite spots to enjoy the sunshine this summer.
Dining – Al fresco Glasgow West End
Wee Paree
Want to pretend you’re sitting on the streets of southern France at a local bistro? Then Wee Paree is a must! This stunning French-inspired cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and the entire vibe of the place will transport you from the streets of Glasgow all the way to France. What could be more delightful on a bright Sunday morning than enjoying a pistachio cream filled crepe?
West Side Tavern
This New York/Italian inspired bar and restaurant has been popular since it first opened its doors in Partick, and to be honest, it’s not hard to see why. In the winter, it feels cosy and warm inside, while in the summer, their hidden beer garden at the back provides the perfect sun trap. Treat yourself to their delicious thin and crispy pizza, fresh pasta and more, all while sipping cocktails in the sun.
Epicures
A brunch, dinner and cocktail favourite, Epicures boasts a substantial outdoor seating area, with plenty of cover and heaters so even if the weather turns, you can continue to enjoy our meal without having to run indoors. Their offering varies from classic brunch dishes, sandwiches and salads by day, and in the evening, an array of unique and bright small and large plates – be sure to check out the salt and chilli squid. Perfect with a glass of vino on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Caffe Parma
Nestled in the heart of Hyndland, this modern Italian restaurant offers up a stunning selection of antipasti, pizza, pasta and Italian classics. Its heated outdoor terrance overlooking the tennis courts is a perfect spot to indulge in a Mediterranean feast. They also boast a beautiful cocktail menu, complete with a selection of summer spritzs, perfect for enjoying on a warm afternoon.
The Marlborough
Situated in the heart of Broomhill, this neighborhood cafe bar and restaurant is somewhat of a hidden gem. Beloved amongst locals but deserving of a wider audience, their south facing pavement patio is quite the sun trap, and is even open all year from 9am to 10pm. So, whether you fancy an al fresco breakfast or want to treat yourself to their 3 course fixed price menu in the sunshine, the Marlborough has you covered.
Gloriosa
Offering an ever-changing, Mediterranean-inspired food menu, Gloriosa keeps customers coming back over and over again with its fresh, vibrant dishes and relaxed setting. In the summer months, there are plenty of tables outside to catch up with friends over a glass of wine and Gloriosa’s now rather famous focaccia (seriously, if you don’t know, get to know).
Ten Eighty Two
New kids on the block ten eighty two have quickly become a favourite casual dining spot in Finnieston, with al fresco options proving popular the moment the sun shines. As well as classic breakfasts, they offer a whole selection of egg based dishes, from classics like benedict, to more unique offerings, like the mexican, with pulled pork, sriracha hollandaise and crispy onions.
Drinks in the sunshine – Al fresco Glasgow West End
Corke & Caske
Fancy sharing a bottle of crisp, cold rose in the sunshine with your fellow wine-loving friends? Then Corke & Caske is the spot for you! With seating available outside on Hyndland Road, and everything from champagne to orange wines on offer, this is a wine lover’s paradise. They even offer tastings, cheese & wine pairings and much more.
The Crescent Bar
Step onto Argyle Street on a sunny evening and you’ll find that almost every restaurant and bar’s outdoor tables are full to the brim with sun seekers. However, finding the right spot can be tricky, as the sun has a tendency to dip behind the taller buildings as the evening goes on. That’s why the Crescent is a perfect spot, with outdoor tables that keep the sun well past 7.30pm and an incredible array of cocktails to choose from. Just get there early so you can grab a table first!
Cottiers
Are you even from the west end if you haven’t had a pint in the church yard at Cottiers? The infamously remodelled church has plenty of sun traps in its surrounding yard to enjoy a drink and a bite. With lush flowers and shrubs bordering the outdoor seating area, it’s the perfect spot to watch the seasons change and the flowers bloom over a pint of beer or a glass of wine.
The Parlour
Vinicombe Street just off Byres Road is home to multiple bars and restaurants, a lot of them with outdoor seating, but our favourite is The Parlour. Their drinks list is extensive, so everyone is sure to find something to suit them, or if you fancy taking things up a notch, why not try a Mystery Shot? Spin the wheel at the bar and you’ll be given a ‘mystery shot’ – could be rum, could be bucky, who knows?!
The Brass Monkey
Without doubt the go-to spot for outdoor drinks if you are headed to the Hydro, the Brass Monkey has a perfectly placed beer garden right on the corner of Argle Street and Kent Road. The second the sun comes out, you’ll find this place full of Glaswegians keen to enjoy a pint of something cold. Make sure you get down there quick or be willing to hover, tables go fast!
