Baby Massage in Glasgow West End with Baby ‘n’ You
Eyebrows were raised when Paediatric Nurse, Suzy Scott, first decided to set up a Baby Massage business. Everyone thought she was mad, and her boss even kindly offered to keep her job “in case it didn’t work out”. But now, seventeen years and a pandemic later… BABY’N’YOU is stronger than ever.
Baby Massage
Baby massage is a perfect introductory class for new babies. Aimed at 0–6-month-olds, it can help with their circulation, lymphatic system, and it’s a particularly popular class to relieve windy or constipated babies. Easy-to-follow notes are sent after class each week meaning you won’t forget the learned massage techniques and can use them at your leisure.
Baby’n’You also host many other class blocks and workshops for 0-3-year-olds from baby yoga to themed musical courses. “All my classes are quite different, but everything has been really organic. It’s just come from parents telling me what they want, and me trying to make it happen,” says Suzy.
The Dowanhill venue is perfectly equipped for prams, and there’s enough space around the sides to leave them without obstructing the exit (or indeed, to leave your little one snoozing for a while longer until they’re ready for class). Today in Advanced Baby Yoga, we’re sat in a circle with 7 other mums and babies. We each have name cards in front of us—which is useful when your still experiencing regular bouts of Baby Brain! Suzy demonstrates a series of yoga postures for us to try from the classic Happy Baby pose to sequences where the babies are safely flipped upside down.
Benefits Baby and Mum
“They do love being upside down, and they’re really robust,” says Suzy. “Baby yoga is great for working on balance, co-ordination, muscle strength and flexibility. Plus, we use lots of songs and fun props to aid the journey.” But it’s not just babies who benefit from Baby Yoga. “It’s quite remarkable to see new parents who start off quite cautious, then four or five weeks later they’re so much more comfortable handling their babies. I really love to see that development.”
Suzy ends the class 10 minutes early and guides us out to the garden for a blether whilst the sun is splitting the trees. “I’ve got mums who met at one of my baby massage blocks in 2008, and their kids are now all going into fifth year at high school. It’s so lovely to think that they met at one of my very early classes and bonded over sleepless nights, teething, and shared experience.”
Even after all these years, Suzy still runs everything by herself which allows her to keep the numbers low so that she can get to know everyone, and everyone can get to know each other. “It can be incredibly isolating becoming a new mum, so it’s really important that you find that village—even if it’s just someone you can go for a walk with or grab a coffee with. I try to encourage that in all my classes.”
…And Relax
Suzy puts the kettle on and passes around the biscuits. “If you’re running 20 minutes late because you couldn’t get the car started or you couldn’t find your keys—still come,” she insists. “And if your baby naps or feeds the whole class, that’s okay too. Even if you just get the cup of tea at the end. It’s a safe space. Don’t worry—your place is here whatever day you’re having.”
Baby’n’You offers great classes to further bond with your baby or toddler, a relaxed, unhurried environment to meet others on that same journey…AND Suzy makes a great cuppa!
