Bespoke Kitchen Design Glasgow
This edition’s West End family moved into their gorgeous tenement flat three years ago. It only took two for their tired and dark old kitchen to break them and send them running to Greg at The Wee Kitchen Shop in Broomhill.
‘The standalone units weren’t practical and offered no storage,’ explain the couple. ‘We spent as little time in here as possible. It was our nine-year-old wanting proper baking prep space that drove us to finally do something about it – we could see how great the space could be with a bit of design input.’
Let’s Get to Work…
An island was a must and the dogleg shape of the kitchen is beautifully mirrored in the warm veined quartz worktops that provide ample kneading and baking space. As keen cooks, the integrated down draft hob means the main cooking space can be on the island too, with no obstructive hood ruining the eye-line. More expensive maybe, but never a choice regretted in the long run.
‘We have so much storage now we no longer need eye-height units which opens the back wall to our solid oak shelve display. This was something we asked Greg for and it looks great when the under-lighting is on.
‘There was an odd indent in the wall as you come in the kitchen too and we were sure it could be utilised better. Greg built us a bespoke larder to fit the space exactly and all of our food is in there now – also freeing up the rest of the storage space.’
With the island doubling as mum’s morning work desk, enjoyed with a morning brew and view out onto the facing tenements and huge cherry blossom tree, their kitchen is a loved family space they are now never out of.
