Food reviews, recommendations and here, one of the best tasting menus in Glasgow!

Nothing says Christmas like spending an evening at the beautifully decked out One Devonshire Gardens and enjoying the return of their Monthly Wine Dinners. Christmas might be in the rear-view mirror now, but the Wine Dinners, thankfully, are here to stay.

Themed Dinners
Held on the last Friday of each month, these special themed dinners include a five course meal, a welcome drink and wine pairing, each centred around a specific wine region.
On this particular late November evening, we were set to enjoy a celebration of South America, with dishes and wine inspired by Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. The night kicked off with assistant manager Robert welcoming us in and taking us on an exclusive tour of the hotel’s wine cellar, which is any wine connoisseurs dream, filled with specially selected wines from across the globe.

Sumptuous South American
Back upstairs, the first of our five courses is a Pork and Chorizo Empanada with a spiced tomato sauce, served alongside a glass of Crement from Argentina. The light freshness of the sparkling wine pairs beautifully with the rich, crisp pastry and carefully spiced filling.
Our second course takes us to Peru, with a plate of lime cured sea bream ceviche, citrus vinaigrette, radish, beetroot, fennel and coriander, paired with another Argentinian wine; this time a Chardonnay.
The next three courses and wines are just as carefully designed and paired as the first two. We enjoy a take on Asada al Palo, a lamb dish slow cooked over coal, paired with a full-bodied Chilean Carmenere, a dessert of coffee soaked cookies with dulche de leche, orange and cream cheese paired with a rich and sticky Tannat Liqueur from Uruguay, and finish off with a selection of cheese served with Hotel du Vin’s own Malbec from Mendoza.

Brush Up on your Wine Knowledge
Each wine is explained in detail by assistant manager Robert, whose passion for wines and his knowledge is clear throughout. We are left satiated, with a new appreciation for South American wine, food and the gorgeous setting of Hotel du Vin, One Devonshire Gardens. The dinners cost £89.95 per person, which includes all five courses and matched wines, which as tasting menus go, is great value in my opinion.
So whether you are new to wine or a self-proclaimed aficionado, I strongly encourage you to take a look at the upcoming Wine Dinners this year – I already have my sights set on a table at a few of them!
