A hub of creative business lets in Glasgow

If you were to happen along the Forth and Clyde Canal of a morning, it’s hard to miss The Whisky Bond (TWB) against the Spiers Warf skyline. Built as a bonded warehouse for Highland Distilleries, this near 70 year old Glasgow institution is now home to some of the most creative businesses in the city. With artists, designers, sculpturers and creative archives, the building is nothing if not an eclectic hub.

Home is where the…chisel is?

One of the main tenant group the Whisky Bond plays host to is creatives. In it’s many forms, workspaces allow creatives to imagine and be inspired. The building has been home to The Glasgow Sculpture Studios since 2012. The studios are the largest art production facility in Scotland. As anchor tenants at The Whisky Bond, they have been integral to developing creative industries on the site. With all the artists require, the studios are a perfect base for sculptural practises. It’s also a perfect space for networking and collaborating with other businesses.

But the expansion of businesses in 2024 saw a whole host of new names added to the directory at TWB. Joining The Sculpture Studios in the last 12 months has been Emubands. Emubands are a digital music distribution company which can help bands get their music out to the masses. The creative collective Oddness have also set up home in TWB in the last year, ‘delivering mind-bending visuals and narratives that engage and provoke.’ This unique group of film makers produce documentaries, online content as well as award winning films.

Eclectic

It’s clear that at The Whisky Bond, the wealth of space allows for all manner of innovative businesses. TWB asset manager Scott McNicol says ‘The Whisky Bond’s community of young, new and creative businesses has grown rapidly in the last twelve months, with the arrival of several new tenants, meaning that the building is thriving and full of energy.
Each new organisation to join our community brings fresh thinking and a new perspective – the Whisky Bond has always been about making connections and collaborations, so to have so many new tenants in the building is a great success story, not just for us but for the tenants who really benefit from building new networks and being able to share ideas.’

And with 50 individual offices and studios over it’s six-storey, 78,000 square feet, the newly opened cafe is set to be busy!

The Whisky Bond is beautifully situated on Spiers Lock, overlooking canal boats, the canal tow paths and the city beyond. Why not take a walk to The Whisky Bond, grab a coffee and breathe in the creativity of the place. There may be a workspace for your ideas…
