Top for Music
There are a LOT of don’t-miss music events this month. At the Riverside Museum Plaza, the FLY Festival
in May will bring all things Dance to Clydeside. With huge names in Dance such as Marlon Hoffstadt and Luuk Van Dijk, the Riverside Yard will be bouncing all weekend. Glo-sticks at the ready.
Over at SWG3 later in May is the iconic Craig Charles. Prepare for a spring day party to remember as Craig takes to the decks, playing the absolute best in funk and soul classics. If you’re lucky, he might throw a little disco into the mix. Get those dancing shoes on Westenders!

Top for World Cup Pre-Match Fun
I could have filled Top Things this issue three times over with World Cup hysteria. Every theatre, every pundit, every other day, there is something on to simply push us over the proverbial edge of anticipation. Some of the highlights include Ally MCoist and Fred McAuley’s World Cup Special at the Armadillo in May. These two haven’t done this show for 27 years and are making a welcome return as there is something rather special happening in June. Anyone? Yes, it’s Scotland’s first World Cup campaign in 28 years. With special guests from across sport, TV, comedy and music including Dougray Scott, Gregor Townsend, John Gordon Sinclair, and Nathan Evans. This is a great night of entertainment – even if you aren’t a footie fan.

Over at The Pavilion Theatre, the next evening, A Pint and two Shots sees the popular football podcast brought to the stage. With TV and comedy’s Stephen Purdon, Grado and Chris Toal, this hilarious night sees the friends return to The Pavilion stage for the third time. Expect the unexpected, especially in this run-up to the World Cup.

If, however, you are trying to get away from all the football chat, Glasgow Blythswood Festival may just be what you are looking for. For two weeks in May expect music, performance, and exhibitions in the heart of the city. The festival celebrates the area of Blythswood, running from Hope Street west to Charing Cross and from Bothwell Street north to Garnethill. Explore the areas art galleries – Glasgow Art Club being one, music centres, including Glasgow Piping Centre and the Royal Conservatoire and visit some of the most iconic cafes and restaurants in the area – Miss Cranston’s Tea Rooms, for example. Wander, explore and enjoy!
