NATI. Is a young singer/songwriter from Kirkcaldy. Her career took off as she took to social media platform TikTok during the 2nd lockdown at the end of 2020, sharing short clips of her singing her favourite songs. Introducing herself as ‘painfully Scottish’, she has over 2 million global followers now. She fully embraces her Scottishness, singing in her own accent, demploying traditional instruments, singing about all things Scottish, mountains, lochs, the sea, glens, sunsets etc. But this is not trad. music, there is genuine pop/rock ambition in her records. Swap out Stuart Adamson’s voice with hers on any Big Country track and you’ll get the gist. It’s all gloriously uplifting. Her top 10 most popular on Spotify could easily be the soundtrack to a new Brave movie… if they ever get round to making Brave 2 someone should pitch her to Pixar.

Choice Track: NATI. – ‘5 More Minutes’

Drum beat (2bars) – Bass Line (8bars)… shoulda been 4bars in my opinion ;)… “You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar, when I met you…” sings Phil Oakley in 1981. It doesn’t get any more iconic than that! Every time he sings that line, what do u think goes thru his head? He’s generally regarded as an 80’s electro curmudgeon, but I’ve been lucky enough to have spent time with him backstage at many 80’s festivals and I find him funny, aware, a wee bit aloof maybe, but always welcoming and personable.

The Human League are Global music icons, they are highly regarded pioneers of electronic music … When they play live they do not deviate from the initial electronica ideals that made them what they are. The songs are fabulous… the band are intense… all in all, if u need your fix of 80’s electronica, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!

Choice Track: The Human League – ‘Don’t You Want Me Baby’

KISHI BASHI
Thursday 12th December 6pm

Kaoru Dill-Ishibashi, who performs as Kishi Bashi, is a 40 something American singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer currently based in Athens, Georgia. He started off as a classical violinist, but found jazz along the way, ending up studying at The Berkeley School Of Music in Boston. This encouraged him to explore improvisation more and he quickly became the go to violinist on many alt music sessions due to the fact that he could tastefully improvise on violin. That’s rare. Kishi Bashi’s compositions often feature looped vocalizations and violin music multi layered on top of each other and this quickly creates beautifully intricate arrangements. It’s mesmerising watching him do this live.

He also caught the attention of many high end brands like Microsoft, Sony and Smart Cars who have used his music in their promo ads. His music also makes it’s way into many films, TV dramas and documentaries. Yes, you’ve guessed it, it’s mostly soundscapey ambient music, but there’s also a fun indie pop side to it too. Good stuff.

Choice Track: KISHI BASHI – ‘Honeybody’
