Glasgow’s West End is full of student-friendly spots perfect for a break from campus life. Whether you’re after a quick coffee, a bite to eat, or a place to unwind, here are four must-visit favourites every Westender should know. Find them on the Westender App.

Offshore Coffee
With its cozy and chilled atmosphere, this vibrant coffee shop is the ideal place to get a much-needed coffee and sweet treat during a busy day on campus. This charming spot has captured the hearts of both Westenders and locals alike for over 12 years now, with coffee that delivers a rich, flavourful experience in every sip. It is therefore no surprise that many of Glasgow’s coffee aficionados regularly stop by for a freshly brewed cup. From delightful sweet treats to delicious Scottish rolls, Offshore’s menu caters to both breakfast and lunch cravings.
Its location, nestled in the heart of Gibson Street, makes it the perfect spot for a relaxing coffee in between classes or for a quick shot of caffeine during the dash down to the St Andrew’s Building. It is also the ideal study spot with free Wi-Fi available.
With its dog-friendly atmosphere, it truly is a warm and inviting space for everyone.
From the moment I stepped in, the staff were incredibly welcoming and offered service with a smile. They also, gratefully, allowed me to have a few minutes to decide what I wanted to order because you are spoiled for choice with the amount of treat options. I opted for a classic flat white and a delicious blueberry muffin that was unbelievably flavourful. This was my third time visiting Offshore and each visit is as excellent as the last.
If you’re looking for good treats and good coffee, Offshore is the place to go.

Epicures
This recently renovated restaurant and bar offers something for every student at any time of day or night. With its stylish dark décor and inviting bar area, Epicures is the perfect place for a well-earned drink after a busy day of classes and studying. All draught pints are under a fiver, and they offer an extensive range of expertly crafted cocktails and mocktails too.
With its diverse range of live entertainment on offer from Thursday to Sunday, Epicures has a sophisticated, after-hours appeal too.
From classic brunch favourites to a carefully curated à la carte dinner menu, there is a wide selection of food options.
It also offers a two or three course set menu, making it ideal for students on a budget. All menus boast a sophisticated choice featuring classic dishes with a modern twist.
My friends and I opted to go for a bit of a French theme with our post-lecture Friday meal. One of my friends and I decided to have the French onion soup with an accompaniment of classic sweet potato fries. Topped with creamy gruyere cheese and deliciously crunchy croutons, the rich and savoury soup was the perfect pick-me-up on a cold afternoon.
My other friend really enjoyed the moules frites. The mussels arrived steaming in a pale broth of white wine, shallots, garlic and parsley. They looked too appetizing not to sample one for myself. Plump and sweet, they did not disappoint.
Epicures really is the place to be for any occasion and is only a 10-minute walk away from campus.

Brew & Bite
This small, inviting coffee shop is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for a coffee or a spot of lunch off campus. Having only opened in 2024, it is a relatively recent addition to the West End’s vibrant coffee shop scene. It is, however, quickly becoming a beloved favourite thanks to its welcoming staff and excellent menu options.
The food menu is an exciting blend of classic favourites as well as Middle Eastern and Mediterranean options. The standout options are without a doubt the halloumi wrap as well as Toshka, an authentic Arabic flatbread. If you’re looking for something slightly less exotic, their ham and cheese sandwich paired with the lentil soup is the perfect combination for a colder afternoon on campus.
The coffee selection is equally as varied. From well-known favourites to global coffees from the likes of Spain and Türkiye, their menu caters to every coffee aficionado. They also offer frappes and fruit coolers too, ideal for the spring season. They have exciting seasonal food and drinks specials too.
On my most recent early morning visit, I opted for my usual tea and muffin combo. Brew & Bite offer a wide variety of tea options and their classic English Breakfast blend is excellent. As for their chocolate muffin, I think it stakes a claim to be the West End’s best… and largest.
Brew & Bite is the ultimate West End hidden gem.

Paesano Pizza
With its three beloved restaurants located across the city, this pizzeria needs no introduction.
Its combination of authentic Italian ingredients and the experienced craftsmanship of its ‘Pizzaioli’ chefs, Paesano Pizza on Great Western Road has been bringing a flavour of ‘La Dolce Vita’ to Westenders for close to 10 years now. All of their pizzas are cooked in large wood-fired ovens to give a quintessential taste of Italy. Their menu blends classic Italian favourites with exciting new specials that are regularly updated. So, you are without a doubt spoiled for choice.
From Venetian wines to schooners of Menabrea, their drinks menu is equally as authentically Italian as their food menu. Freshly made Italian cocktails are also offered too, ideal for a pre-dinner aperitivo. The Aperol Spritz is superb.
Paesano Pizza is also a student favourite not only due to its authenticity and quality, but also because of its affordable prices. Dishes start from £7.90, making it an ideal lunch/dinner spot during a busy day of studying and lectures on campus.
My friend and I had an extremely enjoyable post-lecture dinner on my most recent visit to Paesano. As usual, I opted for the Calabrian spicy salami and mozzarella pizza. Again, as always, it was delicious. The pizza perfectly balanced creaminess and spice with every unapologetic bite. My friend, who is vegetarian, went for the tomato, aubergine and scamorza pizza and loved it.
So, whether you’re new to the West End or a loyal patron like myself, Paesano Pizza will offer you the quintessential Italian experience from the first sip to the final bite.
