Govan Music Festival 2025

A visit to the glorious Govan Music Festival 2025 couldn’t be easier with the new bridge connecting North and South of the river.

Govan Music Festival 2025

Now in its fourth year, the Govan Music Festival is a celebration of community. And there are few festivals which benefit from the creativity of it’s own community quite like this one. What a wealth of creativity that is!

Signs of Spring

The Festival kicks off its programme on 26th of March with an afternoon of choral music from the local Govan Schools. The concert unites schools from across Govan at its opening concert at Fairfield Club, beckoning Spring with this uplifting performance. Entry is free.

On Wednesday evening at the Fairfield Club, Glasgow Songwriter Becci Wallace previews her new Album After the Fog: Air. Happy not to be pigeon-holed in one genre, Becci’s music is soulful and mesmerising. She is happily at home in folk as in collab-ing with hip hop artists. A regular on the Scottish festival, TV and radio circuits, Becci has even appeared in our very own West End Festival.

On Thursday 27th March, the founding fathers of the event, The Glasgow Barons perform at Govan and Linthouse Parish Church. The members of the Orchestra are instrumental, if you’ll pardon the pun, in promoting, fundraising and lauding the culture and arts of the Govan neighbourhood. They will be performing Bach’s Orchestral Suite number two, with its beautiful flute solo being played by flautist Matthew Higham. The dazzling up-tempo Winter by Aileen Sweeney, sees a completely different dimension to the accordion than we Scots have been weaned on. Completing the trio of musical movements is Piazolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Oh, what a piece! Blending elements of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the traditional Argentinian rhythms that wouldn’t be out of place accompanying Argentian Tango, it’s intense, emotional and so very clever.

Tickets for the event are bound to sell out so follow the link below to book.

Weekend Wonders
Govan Music Festival 2025

Freed Up Friday on the 28th March brings a thrilling drug and alcohol free event to Govan’s state of the art venue, Edmiston House, with rappers CCTV, MOG and Eugene, The Ronains and DJS Zander Nation.

Also on Friday 28th, how about a beautiful classical performance in the Kinning Park Complex? The intimacy of the Four Barons String Quartet is a perfect digestiv to a busy week at work. with a delightful diverse programme ranging from Turina to Ravel, sit back, relax and breathe out.

Saturday night sees the diversity of the Govan community, united in a celebration of world music. Ant Thomaz frontman of Funk sensations Dopesickfly treats the audience to his new solo album, Gaia. There’s a return to latin music with the dazzling Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company. And if you have never experienced Flamenco, I strongly urge you to do so. It is an astounding art form which truly touches the soul. And in possibly the most profound of performances, Musicians in Exile will take to the stage. Founded in 2018 by The Glasgow Barons, these musicians have experienced asylum and refuge journeys in order to find a home. That home is Glasgow and these incredibly talented musicians have found a family, support and an outlet for their craft through the community music project set up seven years ago.

All Good Things…
Govan Music Festival 2025

Rounding things off at the Govan Music Festival, is, quite rightly, the Govan community! Local songwriters will be appearing as part of a project supported by the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District. This is a collaboration of businesses such as SWG3 and Glasgow University, with the backing of Creative Scotland Lottery, supporting worthy groups who require funding.

Time to get dates in the diary Westenders. The Govan Music Festival is but a walk across the bridge.
