Graduation Meal Spots

ConGRADulations are in order! The dissertation pictures have been taken, the gowns are rented and ready, and the celebrations are finally beginning. After years of meal deals, pulling all-nighters, and spending those rare sunny days hidden in the library, you can celebrate properly with a fantastic meal – best enjoyed with your nearest and dearest. Here are some of my top picks that will make your graduation dinner in Glasgow West End more special.

Ox and Finch

If you haven’t been to Ox and Finch yet, I’m assuming it’s because you’ve been saving it for the right occasion. Well, this is the one. It is consistently ranked as one of Glasgow’s best restaurants and for good reason. Ox and Finch is all about sharing plates, which makes it perfect for a graduation meal. Everyone gets to try a bit of everything, and trust me, you’ll want to. The gnocchi is absolutely incredible and one of the dishes my friends and I spoke about long after we had left. The cod cheeks are also delicious, but that could probably be said about every dish on the menu.

The atmosphere is a perfect balance between special occasion and relaxed dining. The open kitchen creates a great buzz and adds energy to the room. One piece of advice – book early. Everyone else seems to have discovered how good it is too.

The Skillet

For something warm, welcoming, and guaranteed to leave everyone happy, The Skillet is a fantastic option. The staff are genuinely lovely, the menu caters brilliantly for gluten-free diners, and the portions are generous without feeling over the top. It’s the sort of place that instantly makes you feel comfortable, which is exactly what you want on a day that’s already packed with emotion and excitement. And then there’s the sticky toffee pudding. I don’t throw this around lightly, but it might just be one of the best desserts in the West End. Don’t just take my word for it and have a try for yourself!

The Bothy

If your ideal graduation meal involves classic Scottish hospitality, The Bothy is hard to beat. The cosy interiors, traditional dishes, and welcoming atmosphere make it feel like a proper celebration venue. There’s a good reason that it’s one of the most popular spots for a graduation meal in the West End. It’s the sort of restaurant that parents and grandparents tend to love just as much as graduates, which makes organising the family meal significantly easier.

Wherever you end up, whether that’s at The Ubiquitous Chip, grabbing a slice from Sear’s, or cooking at home with friends, make sure to take the moment in. Graduation day comes around quickly and disappears just as fast. Take too many photos, stay in the gown longer than necessary, celebrate with your favourite people. After all, you’ve earned it.

Sylvan

If you’re looking for somewhere that feels a little more understated but equally impressive, Sylvan is a brilliant choice. Tucked away on Woodlands Road, this neighbourhood favourite has become known for its creative vegetable-focused menu. Even the most committed meat-eaters usually leave impressed. The restaurant has a calm, intimate feel that makes it perfect for celebrating without feeling overly formal. One of the biggest draws is their lunch menu, which offers incredible value and lets you enjoy a special meal without completely emptying your bank account after four years of student life. Thoughtful cooking, beautiful presentation, and a lovely atmosphere make this one a winner.
