When you think of hotel restaurants, what comes to mind? A lacklustre buffet? An overpriced but basic menu? We’ve all been there. At The Grahamston however, nestled inside the centrally located Radisson Blu, things are little bit different.
Determined to create a trendy and inviting city centre space where people can drink, dine and relax, The Grahamston provides a luxurious oasis in the beating heart of Glasgow. Their new dinner menu, which fuses together Scottish classics with an Asian twist, offers some unique dishes that focus on sustainability and seasonality.
Take, for example, the Seared Scallops – a shellfish synonymous with Scotland – paired here with vegetable pakora, celeriac puree and a madras butter. The tender, slightly sweet scallops are bolstered by the bold flavours of madras, and the crispy, crunchy texture of those vegetable pakoras. A strong start, I must say.
Oh, The Choices…
On to the main courses, there are a host of dishes that caught my eye, from the Barbecue Glazed Sirloin, complete with haggis fritter on the side, to the Lamb Rump & Keema Shepherd’s Pie. In the end though, when our friendly and attentive waitress comes to the table to take our order, I find my mouth saying the words ‘Tandoori Chicken’.
To be fair, it sounds heavenly. Tandoori marinated chicken, sweetcorn puree, black dahl, charred corn and a crispy chicken roll. What arrives is a carefully curated plate of bold but clever flavours. The chicken is tender and coated in that slightly spicy tandoori marinade. It works perfectly with the subtle flavours of the black dahl and sweetcorn puree. The crispy chicken roll is, surprisingly, filled with flavours more akin to a Chinese dish, which is unexpected, but not at all unwelcome.
If, however, you are in the mood for something a bit simpler, you don’t need to worry. The Grahamston’s all day menu offers a wide selection of classic bar dishes, from haggis bon bons and steak sandwiches, to good old fish and chips.
