At Westender Magazine, we are passionate about shopping locally to support small businesses in our community. So here are five incredible local shops to visit to get your home, holiday, family, and Christmas ready with timeless items that you will enjoy long after the Festive season has passed. Which makes them excellent value for money too!
Let’s start at Trove on Dumbarton Road – a Treasure Trove of vintage finds. If you are a fan of mid-century style, Trove is a must visit. This shop is packed with beautifully curated mid-century furniture, homewares, and now vinyl and clothing too. Every item in Trove feels like a unique find that will definitely add retro charm to your home.
One item that caught my eye is the fabulous ‘Scofinn’ tea towel. This isn’t just any tea towel, I love it as a piece of art. You can hang it as a colourful decorative feature in your kitchen, or actually use it for drying dishes. Either way, it is a stylish addition to your home and or could easily be a thoughtful gift. Trove has amazing mid-century kitchenware and ceramics and fabulous coasters too.
Next stop Broomhill – to visit SPiRiTO. Spirito is one of those shops where I walk in and instantly feel at home. It is full of carefully chosen gifts, throws, glassware, candles, cards and more. Whether you are shopping for someone else or looking for something special for your own home, Spirito has so much to offer.
Their herringbone throw is one of my seasonal picks. It’s the perfect cosy accessory for those chilly winter nights when all you want to do is curl up on the sofa with a hot drink or a Festive cocktail (I might just have spotted some lovely glasses too!). But this throw is stylish enough to be left out all year round, whether draped over an accent chair or folded at the foot of your bed. With its classic design, it will always look in place, no matter the season. Spirito has such a range of homewares – pop in and have a look.

Next let’s head up to Casseiopia on Hyndland Road – a local institution for gifts and homewares. For over a decade, Cassiopeia has been a favourite in our West End. This award-winning gift shop is full of everything from art and ceramics to vases and planters, candles and candle holders to children’s clothes and toys and ladies’ clothes and jewellery too. If you’re looking for a special gift or something to elevate your home decor, Cassiopeia is the place to go. Look at these amber alchemist bottles.
Beautiful as home decor all year round but at Christmas time pop some fairy lights inside them and they will make a beautiful festive display adding warmth and elegance to your home. There is such a range of artwork, vases, lamps and candle holders to mix and match to create different looks for different seasons or as wonderful gifts. And the lovely folks in Cassiopeia have a free gift-wrapping service too!

From Hyndland Road let’s go to Chancellor Street and visit West by Dykes and Dykes. West by Dykes and Dykes is more than just a shop – it is the brainchild of the talented interior design team that is Dykes and Dykes. The West shop is full of elegant homewares in fabulous neutral tones, from vases and lamps to candles and cushions. If you’re looking for a way to add subtle, understated natural style to your home this Christmas (and beyond), this is the place to visit.
The good news is that in addition to their homewares, West have started to stock some lifestyle buys too so this is a great shop for Christmas this year. My top pick? Their fabulous collection of home and interior design books. These books are full of helpful advice for creating a beautiful space, but they also double as perfect coffee table decor. I do love a good coffee table book. Stack them on your coffee table or display shelf and place a Christmas candle on the top and you instantly have an elegant and stylish Christmas Display.

Finally in this shopping tour, walk along to Byres Road to the aptly named Homes + Interiors. This shop is brand new to the scene, having only opened at the end of September but its already making an impression.
The shop offers a wonderful selection of homewares alongside its bespoke interior design service. From accent chairs to wallpaper, specialist cabinetry, curtains and blinds you will find inspiration for everything you need to transform your space. But the shop also has a range of items to buy and take home to add instant style. This Christmas I am loving these bronze hurricane lamps. They are the perfect way to set the mood for your holiday gatherings, whether you use them to light up your Christmas hallway or create a cosy glow in your living room. Better yet, as these lamps can be used indoors or outdoors, they will be just as useful on a summer evening in your garden. This is the perfect mix of beauty, form and function. I absolutely love them!
So, there we go – that was my very quick round up of just some of the beautiful items for sale in our Local Shops. Give them a visit – I may well see you in there.
