Making you Happy with Home Interiors in Glasgow West End
One of the big positives of Covid was the time we all had to realise that the way we decorated, styled and lived in our homes could significantly impact our mood and wellbeing.
There was an upsurge in folk enjoying decorating and organising their homes during Covid, loving their gardens and outside spaces and simultaneously, because of travel restrictions, we all had to rely heavily on local shops. Now our busy lives have us falling into old habits, forgetting to relax and take time and we are shopping online all the time, forgetting the beautiful and often more unique items available locally.
Where to? Home Interiors in Glasgow West
So let me take you on a tour of West End shops with wellness and indulgence as our theme. Think buys to help you relax and unwind and add to a sense of wellness and happiness this summer. Because that’s what it’s all about.
And… Relax
So what makes you relax and gives you joy in your home and where can you shop locally to boost your sense of wellness? Well, there is nowhere better to start than in Cassiopeia on Hyndland Road. Cassiopeia has just been awarded the title ‘Best Gift Shop’ in Glasgow and it really has the most amazing selection of fabulous homeware and gifts.
As soon as thoughts turn to wellness, I think of the mohair throws in Cassiopeia and their selection of hand-blown glass lamps that create the most relaxing vibe. They also have locally made designer cushions using Timorous Beasties and Mhairi Helena fabric. All gifts that invite comfort and relaxation.
But maybe I should start with the basics of wellbeing and relaxation – at the heart of any wellness-focused home is the bedroom because quality sleep is so important. Investing in a new bed and mattress can drastically improve your sleep quality and, by extension, your overall health. Did you know we are all meant to replace our mattresses every 6-8 years?
It’s Bedtime
The Store Interiors at Munro Place in Anniesland has a fantastic range of beds and mattresses for you to feel and try. The Store is spread across three vast floors and has everything you could possibly need for your home. Dining and console tables, sofas, lamps and mirrors but on the top floor you will find a full range of beds and mattresses. Have a look at this gorgeous Como bed and bedroom range (above). It looks fabulous and those that follow me on Instagram will know that I absolutely love it set against those dark walls. How totally calming and restful!
Having had a great night’s sleep, you still need to make time to relax during the day. So why not create a reading nook or relaxation corner. If you have the space, creating a place to read or to sip a coffee (or a wine) and listen to some music is just a lovely idea and West End tenement flats are perfect for this. Forrest Furnishing in South Street have a fab range of leather recliners and stools. Check out my Get the Look selection on Page 65 and see for yourself.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Just as important as sleep is hydration. Spirito on Crow Road is a lovely gift shop again with a marvelous selection of gifts and fabulous homeware. Look at this gorgeous water jug and glasses perfect for iced water on a sunny day, opposite. Hydration is of course the key to wellness as we all know! So please note I am recommending iced water as against homemade Sangria. But alcoholic options are available! And this set is perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.
On lovely sunny afternoons, have faith I am certain there will be some, it’s good to have easy versatile seating for unexpected garden visitors and look at these benches from inHOOS. Able to be used inside or out, these are great additional seating anywhere. There is nothing better than the happy hormones we get from enjoying the company of family and friends in homes and gardens. HOOS and inHOOS on Great Western Road both have great furniture and accessories and are so worth a visit for some relaxed Scandi style.
The Flicker of a Candle
And lastly, we can’t talk about relaxation and home wellness without two other essential buys – candles and plants. The Kelvin Apothecary on Otago Street is just a delightful shop with candles and melts, soaps and an amazing range of homeware. Treat yourself to a visit and a lovely Scottish made candle.
And a more recent wellbeing trend is house plants. Research shows that plants in the home aid relaxation and wellness so take yourself to Wildthings on Dumbarton Road in Scotstoun and pick up a beautiful new plant.
The West End is full of such gorgeous shops. I should know I visit a lot of them researching these articles. Hopefully you will all find something that will bring you joy and add to your feeling of wellness. It really is important that we all take time to relax and wind down and if we help ourselves to do that while supporting our local shops and businesses, so much the better. So, take some time for you, shop local and be happy. And have a really great summer.
