Calling all Sopranos fans — I’ve found your new favourite dinner spot.

Opened in late November, Rocco’s is located opposite the Ben Nevis bar and claims to be the best Italian-American eatery in Glasgow. Think New York style pies, chicken parm and ‘mom’s spaghetti’. So, does it live up to the hype?
In short, it does. The vibe inside does feel like you are being transported to the set of Goodfellas, with low, ambient lighting, plenty of red leather booths and a style that feels quintessentially old New York.
The Menu

The menu reflects the flavours of Italy and that classic American influence, but with little twists that feel a little more elevated. Take, for example, the humble mozzarella stick. Served here on an n’duja and tomato salsa and a pot of ever-popular hot honey for dipping.
The ‘Big Plates’ section offers comforting classics like Chicken or Eggplant Parmigiana; herb-crusted chicken (or aubergine) topped with house marinara or Tito’s vodka red sauce, provolone cheese and a choice of spaghetti pomodoro or fries on the side. I recommend opting for the vodka sauce — it’s delicious. The spaghetti pomodoro is, in my opinion, the perfect accompaniment to the crispy chicken, in an unctuous and bright pomodoro sauce.

Their 14” New York Style pizzas are perfect for sharing, and are kept simple toppings-wise to let the ingredients sing. We opted for the Pepperoni Passione, with pepperoni, chilli, hot honey, red sauce, mozzarella and parmigiano. I personally love this type of pizza, which is both soft but also crisp. The base holds up, the toppings are flavoursome, and the crust is fluffier than a cloud.

One thing I am very keen to try on my next visit is their Vodka pasta — of which there are two variations. This is their signature dish, so not trying it was possibly a rookie mistake. But at the same time, it gives me the perfect excuse to go back. The first option is Mezze Maniche Alla Vodka; Tito’s vodka red sauce served simply with chilli and parmigiano. If you want to take things up a notch though, you can opt for the Rocco’s Alla Vodka. Rocco’s mezze maniche alla vodka baked with n’duja topped burrata.
Prices at Rocco’s are pretty reflective of the Finnieston area, with a two course meal and a bottle of wine for two coming out at £95 including a service charge. That might feel a little steep for pizza and pasta, but the vibe here is on point, the food is simple but delicious and the service is friendly and relaxed.
Save me a seat for my return for the vodka pasta please, Rocco.
