Top for Family

We are never short of family friendly activities here in the West End.  A firm favourite for all, is the Family fun days at The Grosvenor Café, Ashton Lane. On each Sunday throughout May and June, the cafe has loads of kid’s activities. With arts and crafts, free face painting and games, the kids are well entertained while the grown-ups can decide on what to eat and drink.  On the bank holiday Sundays in May, The Grosvenor will also give the kids a goodie bag and have a balloon artist on hand for some nifty balloon animals. Get booking quick though as places book up fast.

Along at the Glasgow Film Theatre their family friendly ‘Take 2’ movies are free for children under 14 and one accompanying adult on the day of screening.  And they show EVERYTHING!  Blockbusters like Moana 2 and children’s classics, plus they have family friendly foreign language films too.  With access screenings also available, the GFT pull it out of the bag again.

Tea Green Market pops up at Kelvingrove Museum in June.  The independent makers who attend have a swathe of items to showcase including jewellery, ceramics and textiles.  Pop along to the pop up.

Next up, it’s along to Oran Mor for Dirty Harry – a Blondie tribute act.  The band were formed back in 2011 in Edinburgh, so they have honed their craft.  Such is their talent in bringing ‘Blondie’ to life, they’ve even been a support act at The Hydro.  With hits including Atomic, Maria and of course Heart of Glass, our crush on Debbie Harry will definitely resurface.

The behemoth that is WestFest, is Glasgow’s newest arts festival and has been part of the pulse of the West End since June 2022. Residents love it and visitors wish they were residents – what a place to live! Across 60 venues in Glasgow’s West End, events take place throughout June.

This year’s WestFest promises ‘an eclectic array of events, performances, and activities. Our favourite street festivals are returning, as well as concerts, community events, workshops, and exhibitions. Our festival highlights are here too with The Big Sunday and Bard in the Botanics. There’s also the Glasgow Vintage Bus Tour and the ever-popular Kelvingrove Outdoor Ceilidh.  With so many of the events being free, it’s a great time to be a Westender!
