University life can be a bit of a whirlwind – juggling lectures, socials, and endless deadlines can get overwhelming. That’s why it’s so important to hit pause and make time for yourself. Whether you’re looking to get moving, clear your mind, or just unwind, here are some tips to help you stay balanced and feel your best.
Move Your Body, Lift Your Mood
Staying active is one of the best ways to boost your mood and clear your mind. Thankfully, the West End is packed with places to get moving. Why not try something new and pick up a fitness class?
Damn Hot Yoga: Sweat it out with a hot yoga session to feel refreshed and energised – I had the best sleep of my life after trying one of their classes!
Otago Street Pilates: Give a reformer class a go – it’s a great way to build strength and flexibility.
Yoga with Emma Young: Every Sunday, practice yoga in the beautiful Kibble and take advantage of the 10% student discount with code STUDENT10.
Prioritise Your Sleep
Late-night cramming or Netflix binges might seem like a good idea at the time, but quality sleep is essential for keeping stress at bay. Setting up a consistent sleep routine can work wonders for your mood and productivity.
- Try using apps like Headspace for guided relaxation and sleep stories.
- Make your wind-down routine something to look forward to – think cosy pyjamas, soft lighting, and a good book.
Walk It Out

Don’t underestimate the power of a good walk. It’s perfect for taking a much-needed, mindful break from your screen. If you’re feeling ambitious, swap the walk for a run – the Couch to 5K app is brilliant for beginners (tried and tested by yours truly).
Kelvingrove Park: Sometimes, fresh air is all you need to clear your head. A walk along the River Kelvin can be an easy escape from campus stress.
Botanic Gardens: Nothing beats a peaceful wander through the iconic Botanic Gardens. Explore the vibrant gardens or find a quiet spot in the glasshouses to recharge.
Connect with Your Community
When uni gets hectic, it’s easy to retreat into your own bubble – but staying connected to your support network is essential for your wellbeing. Make time to catch up with friends, whether it’s over coffee or at a society event. Set a reminder to call a family member after your first lecture. It’s a small effort that makes a big difference. You could also get involved with a local charity. It’s a great way to meet new people while giving back.
At the end of the day, wellness looks different for everyone. Whether it’s a calming yoga session, brunch with pals, or simply a peaceful walk through the Botanics, the West End has everything you need to feel good inside and out. Next time life feels too full-on, take a breather and check out one of these wellness spots – your mind and body will thank you!
