Student’s Guide to the West End

Happy New Year Westenders! Let’s start 2025 the way we mean to go on – going out and making memories that’ll last (even if they’re a little blurry). And there’s no better spot for that nighttime buzz than the West End. Student Bars Glasgow West End.

For music lovers, Wunderbar near Kelvinhall subway station is a hotspot for student nights. With live performances ranging from local bands to open mic nights, it’s the perfect way to mix good vibes with good tunes. Looking for something a little more traditional? Then Kitty O’Shea’s is a must. A student favourite for live music and all things Irish. Keep an eye out for when Papa Shandy is playing – I’m obsessed.

If a low-key night is more your thing, head to The Belle for a glass of wine. With its snug interior, roasting fire, and great game selection, it’s the perfect spot for catching up with friends or winding down after a busy day back at uni. Another West End gem is The Sparkle Horse. Mondays are quiz night, so rally your mates, grab a pint, and don’t forget to order the iconic Swayze shot.

If you need a midweek pick-me-up, The Stand Comedy Club is a must. Every Tuesday, they host Red Raw, a night filled with comedy for only £6! It’s the perfect mix of upcoming comedians testing their new material and a seasoned headliner to end the night. It’s one of my favourite spots for a reason. You’ll love it, trust me! If trying new things is your bag, check out what’s on at The Hug and Pint. This unique space is known for hosting a diverse lineup of live acts spanning all genres, so there’s always something new to discover. Go in blind, grab a five-pound margarita, and support some local artists. You might find your new favourite band!

Not every night-out needs a drink – so why not head to The Grosvenor Cinema on Ashton Lane and catch a late-night film? This cosy independent cinema has a gorgeous vintage feel, with comfortable seats that will make you feel right at home. Perfect for a chilled night with friends or a casual date.

Whether you’re after Student bars in Glasgow West End, a pint by the fire, a night of comedy, or dancing the night away, the West End has you covered. Cheers to your next night out!
