Tucked away in the West End, Finnieston’s Hidden Lane is one of my favourite spots. Filled with quirky shops, cobbled streets, and colourful shops fronts, this charming alleyway is home to a diverse community that makes it well worth a visit. From art to afternoon tea, classes to crafts, there’s always something to catch your attention.
Nestled in the corner of the Hidden Lane, but too popular to be called a ‘hidden gem’, you’ll find Rafa’s Diner. One of, if not the best, Mexican restaurant in Glasgow. Rafa’s offers a variety of fresh tacos, stuffed burritos, and tempting specials. Who knew something as simple as ‘chips + guac’ could be so good? Make sure to check the opening times before you plan your visit, it’s not one to be missed.
Looking for a new hobby or change in your routine? Check out a class at Damn Hot! Their hot yoga and pilates classes are beginner friendly and a great way to meet new people. The heat makes it easier to stretch into challenging poses, a relaxing and rewarding activity – what’s not to love? If you’re new to the studio, take advantage of their student discount and get 14 consecutive days of unlimited classes for £30.
The Hidden Lane is great for a solo wander, but there’s also plenty activities to do with friends, including pottery painting at Spin Pottery. Although don’t expect to get any catching up done, you’ll be too focused on your masterpiece to chat. Keep an eye on their website for wholesome events like paint and sip nights.
There truly is something for everyone. Browse the records at Last Night in Glasgow and take a moment to admire their gorgeous stained-glass window. Check out the posters in Curated and Gifted for a pre-semester room refresh. Browse the unique collection in Finnieston Antiques – while vintage pieces might not be within a student’s budget, it’s nice to browse, right? So, the next time you’re in Finnieston, take a detour down the Hidden Lane. Whether you’re there to support local artists, enjoy some delicious food, or snap a photo of the colourful shops for your Insta story, you’ll leave feeling better for it.
