The Yarn Cake knitting café launched in 2010 in the West End. Since then, this award-winning site has expanded and created a loyal following. In 2011 The Glasgow School of Yarn annual festival was born. Back for its 15th year, Scotland’s longest running yarn festival returns at the Briggait this October. With yarns from every part of the country, accessories and a plethora of vendors, attendees won’t be leaving empty handed. Plus, with workshops throughout the day, whether you want to brush up on your crochet, or learn a new technique, The Glasgow School of Yarn 2026 is not to be missed.

The annual Gaelic Festival, The Royal National Mod lands in Glasgow this October. Mod Ghlaschu is the world’s largest celebration of Scottish Gaelic language, culture and music, including concerts, cèilidhs, gatherings and workshops. Venues taking part include the Royal Concert Hall, the National Piping Centre, the Barrowlands and Òran Mór. Within the Mod, visitors can experience everything from music
and song to literature and drama and all forms of Gaelic arts. Even if you are not a Scots Gaelic speaker, the beauty and emotion of the language is entirely worth a visit to the festival.
