February
Top for Wellbeing
It’s a bit cliché, a bit conformist, but we do look to this time of year to get ourselves in shape: physically, mentally or both. It’s good to have a goal, right? Well, if the half Marathon on 5th January is just a little too soon after the excesses of the festive period, how about The Glasgow 5K, 10K and Half Marathon Winter Warmer Run on Sunday 2nd February? The run is in support of the charity Shelter, so if it’s a little brisk out there, all the good you are doing should keep you warm.
Me? I ‘heal thyself’ in a much gentler manner. Take the breathtakingly gorgeous-sounding Loch Lomond Sunrise Goose Walks RSPB. You can’t tell me that even reading that sentence hasn’t made you feel better! This activity does what it says on the proverbial tin. Geese roost overnight and at sunrise watch thousands take to flight by the light of the rising sun.
You’re welcome.

Top for Love in the Air

I did consider ranting about the disgraceful commercialisation of a day which sees many secondary school wallflowers simply wither and die by the humiliation of not receiving a card. But enough on my experiences in the 80s. Instead, let’s consider Valentine’s Day gifts which every girl will love. For an early gift, why not consider Hairspray at the Kings? Winning eight Tony awards on Broadway, this production went on to lift four Olivier awards. With songs that are just going to make you smile, join Tracy (great name) Turnblad and her friends and have a Good Morning Balti- eh Glasgow!
And for a thoughtful gift that really will keep on giving, how about some art lessons? Emma’s Studio in Charing Cross has courses, workshops and weekly classes in the most beautiful studio set in the corner of a Glasgow tenement. Emma is an exceptional artist and teacher and even the time learning in the studio is good for the soul. What more could a gal (or guy) ask for than the ability to create beauty??
Traditional Gifts
And for traditional gifts, well you can’t go wrong with flowers, can you? Wild Things on Dumbarton Road have the most beautiful arrangements. And for the gift that keeps on giving, how about a flower subscription? Set how often you want fresh flowers sent to your love and Wild Things will do the rest!
And, of course, diamonds are a girl’s best friend? But take a wander round the West End’s Hidden Lane off Argyle St. It has the most amount of incredible jewellery designers for bespoke, hand made unique jewellery. A lovely wee wander, some new Scottish jewellery. Then a rather fabulous burrito from the hidden gem that is Rafas Diner. Now that’s a Valentine’s Day to remember!
