Artist Printmaker Damian Henry show us HIS Glasgow in his new exhibition

The confident lines of a West End landmark, the quirky expression of a beloved animal. These are the stylistic traits of one of Glasgow’s most recognisable artist printmakers, Damian Henry. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, favourite studies for his art are client’s pets and homes, with Damian catching the essence of his subject in every considered line, every captured detail. It is of no surprise that Damian has a huge catalogue of commissions: from Edinburgh to Los Angeles, from Marti Pellow to chef Nick Nairn.
Yet Damian still has time to work on group and solo exhibitions. From the Glasgow Print Studio, he has created his artwork, being a member for the past 25 years. His audience may have viewed his pieces in his beloved Glasgow or indeed in galleries in Canada, New York or France.
Glasgow’s Landmarks

Damian’s images of Glasgow, are, as he says himself ‘not architectural renderings, rather they are impressionistic, spontaneous.’ With many house portrait commissions, he has also detailed many of the city’s most famous buildings over the last few years.
Indeed, Damian’s upcoming exhibition is Glasgow’s landmark buildings, in celebration of Glasgow 850th birthday as an established burgh. Buildings included in the exhibition will be the Tolbooth and Mercat Cross, Glasgow University, the City Chambers and Glasgow Cathedral, to name a few.
A third-generation artist, Damian says of his work,
‘I like my images to be direct, simple, honest and eloquent.’ And of his architectural impressions he says ‘My urban work is a way to document the reality of Glasgow, a city which I love and is my home.’
