A Student’s Guide to the West End

Coffee. End.

Best Coffee Glasgow West

Let’s be honest – for most students, coffee is less of a want and more of a need. I’ll be sharing with you some of my favourite spots that not only serve up great coffee but also come with the kind of atmosphere that will make you want to stay and work all afternoon. Whether you’re in need of a post-lecture pick-me-up or settling in for a solo study session, these West End cafés are a little off the beaten track, and well worth finding.

1841 Hyndland

This new gem in the Hyndland area has already earned a top spot on my coffee rota. They serve Thomson’s Coffee, which is elite (and roasted locally, bonus points). The interior is sleek yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot for zoning in on uni work. The best part? When the sun starts to set, 1841 transforms into a bar, so you can swap your cappuccino for a cocktail without even changing seats. Gather your pals for a post-study drink and make a night of it.

Novar Drive

Another Hyndland highlight of mine. The first thing I noticed was the generous size of the iced matcha lattes, providing a well needed energy boost for a productive study session. The vibe is laid-back, with that perfect balance of calm and cool. I love having the option to sit outside and people-watch while I procrastinate – and this place is perfect for that. That is, if you’re brave enough to face the Glasgow weather! Be sure to keep an eye out for their rotating specials too – they’re always doing something a little different.

Space Speciality Coffee House

A Dumbarton Road favourite, Space has quickly made a name for itself among students. It’s effortlessly cool with great playlists, friendly staff, and perfectly brewed coffee. The cookies? Unreal. The cinnamon rolls? Even better. Every Wednesday, they host a Night Café that runs until 9pm, so pop along and romanticise your late-night study sessions with a pastry and a flat white.

Ottoman Coffeehouse

Trust me when I say this is one of the best spots in Glasgow. The interior alone feels like a little escape from the chaos of uni life. With warm lighting that invites you in, stunning design that demands your attention, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The staff are lovely, the drinks are creative, and the menu is full of surprises. You’ll leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and probably planning your next visit.

Kaf Coffee

Tucked away on Hyndland Street, Kaf is a minimalist dream. It’s calm, intimate, and the coffee is made for connoisseurs. Stacked with picturesque pastries and speciality products with beautiful designs, it was made for your Instagram story. If you fancy trying something different, order their white chocolate chai. It’s a game changer.
