A Tartan-Clad Tribute to Teenage Obsession and Unbreakable Friendship

Do you remember the thrill of your first boyband obsession — the kind you’d give anything to relive?
This summer, The Pavilion Theatre is giving Bay City Rollers fans that very chance. Rollers Forever is a brand-new musical bursting with nostalgia, friendship, and plenty of tartan running from 19–30 August. The show is a heartfelt tribute to the Bay City Rollers – and to everyone who remembers exactly where they were when Bye Bye Baby topped the charts.
It’s All About Friendship
At the heart of the show is Jenny and Susan, two lifelong friends who reunite for a night that takes them right back to their teenage years. Leading ladies Dani Heron — known for Chariots of Fire and Alright Sunshine — plays Jenny, while Chiara Sparkes — who appeared in Mamma Mia! and Glasgow Girls — is stepping into the part of Susan.
When recalling her first reaction to the script, Dani says: “It’s just really funny and full of heart. It’s about friendship and what it means to be a fan — and I think people will really see themselves in it.”
‘You will always hear a Bay City Rollers song playing at a family party – it’s just ingrained in our culture.’
Chiara couldn’t agree more, saying: ‘Especially in Scotland, it was more than fandom – it was support, it was a lifestyle.’
‘I think what can happen with jukebox musicals, especially around a band or a person, is they just tell that person’s story, but what’s really nice about this script is it’s coming from the fans’ point of view.’
That’s what gives Rollers Forever its unique charm. The story isn’t centred on the band, but the people who adored them. Dani loves how ‘It’s told through the eyes of the fans, and that makes it really special.’
‘My mum and auntie were massive Rollers fans, and they’ve already got their tartan outfits ready – they’ll be easy to spot in the crowd.’

Sing-a-Long-a-Rollers
The duo share more than a stage, they share a friendship that goes way back. Dani says: ‘We’ve known each other for years – I actually directed Chiara in Mary Poppins when she was ten. There’s one routine we’ve got involving our trousers that I can already tell will be so funny.’
That’s the only hint we’re getting, so if you want to see just how enjoyable it will be, you’ll need to book tickets to find out!
Chiara is excited for audiences to relive their fandom moments, saying: ‘What I’m most looking forward to is people singing along — the show’s built for it, and there’s no barrier between the stage and the audience.’
Also joining the ladies is Liam Harkins as Susan’s brother Alec, bringing a commanding stage presence after his acclaimed portrayal of Celtic legend Tommy Burns, as well as a collective of Scotland and the UK’s leading performers.
Backed by original Roller Stuart “Woody” Wood as artistic consultant, written by award-winning playwright Danny McCahon, and directed by acclaimed theatre-maker Liz Carruthers, Rollers Forever is shaping up to be a feel-good crowd-pleaser.
With a fantastic set designed by Scotland’s top set designer Karen Tennent, and a setlist guaranteed to get audiences singing along, this is one reunion you won’t want to miss.
