November

How CAN we be here already? Our last Top Things column of the year. Seems like only yesterday I was waxing lyrically about Burns Night. Let’s see what the West End holds for its last hoorah of 2025 with a round up of events in Glasgow this November
Top for Film Making
Glasgow Museums are holding a Masterclass in Film-Making this November – and it’s absolutely free! It’s a whole day event with the premier of new Sci-Fi Thriller, The Silent Messenger. Following the film, there will be a Q&A with cast and crew. Then, it’s on with the workshop. Learn how to make shorts and independent feature films; how to write scripts and direct actors, plus so much more.
So, if you are between 16-26, get booking now. There’s even a free lunch!

Hugh Graham is an incredible artist who started his career at The Edinburgh College of Art in 1969. Since then, he has had many roles, including the Artist in Residence at Glasgow Arts Centre. Hugh brings his exhibition ‘Clootie’ to The Alchemy Experiment this November. A clootie is a rug made of rags and is derived from necessity in days gone by. This exhibition displays recent work of Hugh’s over the past 5 years and includes wall hangings/ rugs, artworks on paper and sculptures. His work is inspired as Hugh says by his wanderings. ‘Experiencing nature is important for my personal and emotional wellbeing. Breathing the colours and textures of hedgerows, tide lines, rock formations are re-assembled in the studio…’
He will be in residence at The Alchemy Experiment each day from 10-12 and 2-4, twining a rug for Frankie, Alchemy’s resident dog. All things considered, if you visit one exhibition before 2025 is out, it’s fair to say ‘Clootie’ might be a good shout.

Top For a Quiet Fireworks Night
Fireworks are beautiful to watch, but oh, the noise. Sometimes so many are going off in really enclosed areas that our wee dogs are terrified.
Thankfully the Rangers at Whitelees Windfarm outside Newton Mearns cater for all the pups who just need a little bit of hush. They have organised their ‘Nae Fireworks Night’ on the 5th November. Go along for a torchlit doggy walk, get a cuppa in the café (dogs are allowed in the Visitor’s Centre for the evening) and get some advice from the SSPCA stall.
