Rastafarian, Barrington Ainsworth Levy, is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist from Clarendon, Jamaica. He started his musical career back in the late 70s and by the early 80s he found himself to be one of the most successful artists in Jamaica. By the mid 80s he was having hit records in the UK and Europe too. Rolling Stone magazine listed him in the top 100 greatest singers of all time and in 2021 he was featured on The Gorillaz track ‘Meanwhile’, Damon Albarn is a fan. This is old school roots reggae, but it’s the quality of Barrington’s voice that stands him apart from all the others. Rolling Stone were not wrong.

The multiple award winning Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester in 1990. They have released 10 studio albums to date with seven of their singles reaching the top 40 of the British singles chart.
It was interesting discovering that the band often quote prog rockers Genesis as a big influence on what they do… I’d never thought of that before, but now every time I hear them I keep thinking of Gabriel & Co!
I especially warmed to lead singer Guy Garvey when he read several children’s stories for the CBeebies ‘Bedtime Stories’ programme on the BBC back in 2015. My kid was only two at the time and we both loved him, he was so good at it.
Choice Track: Elbow ‘Sober’

Sofia Isella is a young American alt singer, songwriter, producer, and violinist from Los Angeles.
I hear a lot of the quirkiness and skill of Fiona Apple in her music, with a bit of 80s Debbie Harry in her voice too. Her promo photos can be a tad arresting at times opting for shock and awe as opposed to Glitz’n’Glam.
She’s an experienced performer for one so young, having opened for Taylor Swift on her Eras tour, Melanie Martinez, Tom Odell and on a headline world tour this year. She is a bit odd though, in fact very odd, but I think she likes it that way. So you have been warned, expect the unexpected.
Choice Track: SOFIA ISELLA ‘Dog’s Dinner’
