Student Summer Bucket List

By Eva Curran

Summer is finally here – and not a moment too soon! Exams are behind us, deadlines are forgotten, and the long, lazy days ahead are full of potential. Let Westender help get your summer off to the best start with our ultimate Summer Bucket List.

Attend a Gig at the Kelvingrove Band Stand

Ask any student and they’ll tell you: there’s no better way to spend a summer’s night than some tinnies in Kelvingrove Park. Now add live music, fairy lights, and a buzzing crowd. And you’ve got yourself the perfect West End evening. Back for its tenth year, the Summer Nights series at the Kelvingrove Bandstand is a staple on Glasgow’s gig calendar. Expect an eclectic mix of 80s legends and Scottish indie favourites. It’s one of the most atmospheric venues in the city, and a must-do if you’re a music lover (or just fancy a class night oot).

Explore the Riverside Museum

When was the last time you stopped by Glasgow’s iconic Transport Museum? If you’re struggling to remember, or your answer involves a school trip, then it’s definitely been too long. With its interactive exhibits, nostalgic design, and rich history of the city, it’s hands down one of the best museums in Glasgow. Once you’ve finished admiring the Riverside Museum, be sure to hop on board The Tall Ship, moored just outside. It’s an immersive experience that feels like stepping back in time. Plus, it just so happens to be one of the best sunset spots in Glasgow. Spend an afternoon exploring, grab a bite to eat, and soak up a bit of calm by the water. You’ll be glad you did. Oh – and it’s free entry too. It just gets better and better.

Grab a coffee at The Railyard

Just across from Kelvinbridge Subway lies one of the West End’s coolest up-and-coming spots: The Railyard. Every Saturday, it turns into a vibrant community market where you can pick up bits from Scottish farmers, bakers, artists, and makers. Grab a coffee, check out some live music, and potter around in the sun. It’s perfect for a slow morning after a night out, or a wholesome way to spend a Saturday if you’re feeling fresh.

Visit the Highland Cows

A hop, skip, and bus ride away, you’ll find yourself at Pollock Country Park, Glasgow’s biggest green space. And home to the seriously majestic Highland cows. Explore the impressive Burrel Collection (yes, it’s free!), admire the gardens at Pollock House, or get lost among the forest trails. Be sure to make a day of it by bringing a picnic – disposable cameras encouraged for some scenic film pictures.

Check out Bard in the Botanics

There’s even a student discount available.
