The Resol String Quartet

Wellington’s first edition of its own Arts Festival brings together music, drama, poetry and discussion workshops and performances. All in one week, in one building – a performing arts pick and mix!

All events take place at Wellington Church, 77 Southpark Avenue, Glasgow G12 8LE

Japanese Matsuri

This week long multi-arts mini-festival is the culmination of the monthly chamber concert series held at Wellington Church, which began regular performances again in January 2022.

The brainchild of performing musicians, Alan Kitchen and Héloïse Bernard, the airy dimensions of the space permitted musicians and the West End community to re engage safely with live performance.

Festival events kick off on Saturday 18th June with the 20th Festival of Japanese culture, known as Japanese Matsuri – organised by the Scottish charity ‘Japanese Matsuri for Glasgow’. There will be Taiko Japanese drumming, origami, Japanese calligraphy and colouring of pictures, led by Yushin Toda and Fumi Nakabachi. And best of all? All Matsuri events are free.

The Large Airy Performance Space

Later on the same day the first of a two-part drama workshop exploring Shakespearean verse and scenes takes place. An Introduction to Shakespeare is led by Rebecca Robin and no acting experience is necessary. Booked via Eventbrite, there are only 12 spaces available so be sure to book up your spot quick! The second workshop is held a week later on the 25th June – the final day of the Festival.

With a further traditional music event on the Saturday, followed by a week of poetry, discussion and music – culminating in a performance by the Resol String Quartet – the inaugural event is clearly a labour of love.

A labour of love by two performers who want to give back to their musical and West End communities after a tough two years. And with such an eclectic mix of arts events to choose from, for either no cost or a nominal charge, it’s a great way for Westenders to show their support for the performing arts and the dedicated people who work in them!
