Back in 2023 Westender ran a rather splendid competition: a stay at the beautiful Willow Lodge, Dunoon with some fabulous food at nearby Blairmore Cafe.

The oh-so-lucky winners were Sandra and Kathryn. The ladies had a fabulous time as the pictures clearly show! Willow Lodge owner Christine told Westender what a lovely time the ladies had and what a pleasure it was to accommodate them.

Not only did Sandra and Kathryn enjoy their stay at the lovely lodge but enjoyed their trip to the Blairmore cafe nearby for their scrumptious lunch. The great news for Westender readers are that Willow Lodge and the Blairmore are open all year round. Need a Winter escape? Read on…

The Blairmore is a mother and daughter family run café on the shores of Loch Long providing stunning views of Blairmore Pier and offering locally sourced produce, lots of home baking, light meals, tea and coffee, wine and cocktails, and Loch Fyne Ales. And although opening hours are a little different over the Winter months, there’s still yummy goodies to be had over long weekends during Nov, Dec and Feb.

And don’t worry if you have a furry friend, they won’t miss out because Willow Lodge Dunoon is also pet friendly.

Dunoon and Cowal

This charming area has a wide range of activities with Dunoon also offering a shopping centre, leisure facilities and a small cinema. Further afield, the beautiful scenery of Cowal is perfect for a brisk winter forest or coastal walk. With the Arrochar Alps and Loch Lomond National Park a stone’s throw away, coming back to the cosy Willow Lodge, is just the ticket to get your tootsies warmed up and get the log burner going.

Looking to the future, The Dunoon Project, an innovative community regeneration scheme is underway with the aim of putting Dunoon on the map. A cable car will be installed from Dunoon to the top of one of the nearby hills, allowing guests a stunning viewpoint, and more accessible pathways for hikers and cyclists. So that’s great news for the businesses and tourists alike in this stunning and easily accessible part of Scotland. To find out more on the Dunoon project visit – dunoonproject.org

When Winter would arrive and I was less than enthusiastic on getting out for a walk, my mum would always remind me – “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothes”. Let’s get some air in those lungs over the Winter months and take a trip doon the watter.
