Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art

The Biennial festival returns with a special event to kick things off at SWG3

The Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art is now in its 10th outing – by my reckoning that’s 20 years of innovative, thought-provoking creativity. It’s always such a fun event because it is city-wide. Wandering from venue to venue, taking in the incredible art, mesmerising installations and enthralling spoken word.

To mark the launch of the event SWG3 are hosting SWG3 X Glasgow International Party. The event on Friday 7th June will give guests a chance to get a preview of the incredible festival programme whilst enjoying live music to boot.

With canapés and drinks on arrival, guests can enjoy the opening of Mark Beck’s exhibition Mark Beck:Last Night which documents a seminal evening in dance party history. There’s a great array of music on the lineup. In the Galvanizers, it’s Mozart Estate. In the TV studio, prepare for some pop punk and legendary DJs, J.D. Switch and Optimo till late into the night.

The Festival

On the Festival’s programme, SWG3 are utterly delighted to welcome Yoko Ono’s mesmerising work DREAM, which will be installed in the Galvanizers from the beginning of the festival until December. Other forms of art to experience include Lawrence Abu Hamdan: Live Audio Essays, absolutely not to be missed. You can experience the live essays on three dates over the course of the festival. The monologue will be dotted with film footage, sound design and percussion. A real multi sensory experience.

Meryl Gilbert, Arts and Business Director, says : “Glasgow International is such an amazing festival for Glasgow and one we always look forward to. We are proud to be hosting such a diverse programme crossing performance, visual art and music and once again hosting the legendary Friday night opening event. We look forward to welcoming everybody to the venue for an incredible evening to celebrate the start of the festival.”
