Orchid Fair Weekend at the Botanics

It’s that time of year again when Scotland’s only annual orchid show and fair returns to the Botanic Gardens.

In the beautiful surroundings of the Kibble Palace, the event is held in association with the Friends of Glasgow Botanic Gardens and the Scottish Orchid Society. As well as the beautiful flowering orchids, there will be a chance to get some advice and information from the Society members who will be on-hand to answer your queries. Alan MacKenzie of the Scottish Orchid Society says, ‘These glorious plants have become increasingly popular and we aim to showcase a wide variety of interesting orchids, many of which will have been grown as houseplants in UK homes by society members.’

With some truly interesting and rarely available tropical plants and orchids to buy on the day, the weekend really will be a feast for the senses. On Saturday afternoon, an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Botanic greenhouses will take place, presided over by the Garden’s orchid propagator Christine Nicholson. The tour is first come first served, so get to the Society stand early to avoid being disappointed.

Visiting the Botanics is a treat any day of the week. On an extra special weekend like this, there is even more reason to take a trip. Besides, escaping from this truly dreich weather to a tropical haven for an hour or two? No bad thing.
