Scottish Crime: Bloody Scotland Festival returns for 2021!

Bloody Scotland

Scotland’s international crime writing festival is back from the 17th-19th of September. Those fans of all things Tartan Noir should make sure to head to one of the many panels being put on in this year’s festival – what promises to be their most ambitious yet!

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to Stirling for one of the fascinating Scottish crime events in person. This is a hybrid event allowing both authors and readers from all over the globe to tune in and attend the events too!

A real who’s who of Scottish crime writing

Scottish crime is a subgenre all of its own, and it is fantastic to see it being celebrated once more through this festival.

Katalina Watt, Literature Officer at Creative Scotland, said: “Scottish crime writing is a beloved and globally renowned literary export, and it’s heartening to see that with the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, this year’s enticing programme can offer in-person events in Stirling, alongside a host of digital offerings. Creative Scotland is delighted to support the festival once more in bringing the diverse plethora of Scottish crime writing voices, both emerging and established, to a wide audience within Scotland and beyond.”

Authors set to attend the festival include big names such as Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Denise Mina, and more. We shall also see a wide range of names from outwith Scotland including Paula Hawkins, Mark Billingham, and Luca Veste among others.

If this was not enough, massive names such as Kathy Reichs, Karin Slughter, Jeanine Cummins, Lee Child, Robert Peston, Linwood Barclay, and the one and only Stephen King will be tuning in via video link. Live from the Albert Halls, interviewers will be ready to offer them questions in front of both a live and a digital audience.

Fun for everyone

Bloody Scotland is known for going above and beyond, creating an itinerary of events that all attendees are going to enjoy.

Festival Director, Bob McDevitt said: “It’s going to be a Bloody Scotland like no other but we do love a challenge and I can’t wait to see all of our authors, and crime fans back together in real life while extending our global reach as we beam the festival all over the world.”

In addition to the literary discussions, we will also see several other fun events. Don’t miss out on Pitch Perfect, Crime in the Spotlight, and the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers to name just some of the things that will be going down here. Online attendees should also make sure to swing by the A-Z of Crime and Around the World in 80 Deaths.
