Luxury Glamping In Scotland…
I’d genuinely forgotten quite how gorgeous Portpatrick is – though we lucked out with the weather the afternoon we arrived. Positively balmy for the last day of November the sun was already dipping as we came out The Harbour House from a late lunch, just in time for plenty of stunning sunset shots for the reel I’ll put out on our socials early January.
For a wee seaside spot it packs a punch far beyond its size. There’s its natural charms of course: fine golden sands; rock pools; headland walks, and boat trips. As well as lovely gift shops and quality eateries (though do watch the time of year you go if you want to be spoiled for options). The village itself is so historic and picturesque and the harbour way bigger than I remembered. There’s also a multi-sports court and bowling green harbourside, right next to the RNLI boat.
Coorie Retreats
This diversity is what drew Coorie Retreat owners Tomas and Eamon to the area in the first place. ‘Portpatrick is a beautiful seaside town with so much character. We wanted to create a place where people could go for dinner, enjoy a few drinks if they wished, and also explore the area by walking or cycling,’ says Eamon. ‘We knew Portpatrick would be perfect for that.’
Meeting at work on a building site six years ago, the pair became firm friends when they discovered common interests. Loving a wee glamping stay with their own families they realised they’d love to create the same. And since they both have backgrounds in hospitality, they come to their project with the right client-centric thinking so important to ensure the relaxed Coorie Retreat vibe is created.
Just outside the village, the camping pods and domes elevate glamping to a whole other Insta-friendly level. For a start the geodesic domes have under-floor heating. I’ll leave that there! And the living accommodations are just absolute luxury, however it’s the private outdoor spaces that will wow you.
Total Luxury
Each unit comes with its own wood-fired hot tub, Netflix ready 100 inch cinema screen, wood-fire pizza oven, Ninja wood-fire electric BBQ grill and smoker, espresso coffee pod machine, as well as luxury food basics such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk and quality snacks – as well as a bottle of fizz! And of course fire wood and pellets come as standard, as do the robes and slippers for getting in and out of the hot tub. Regardless of the weather Tomas and Eamon have all eventualities covered as the outdoor hot tub, cinema and pizza area are all under cover – they may actually have thought of everything and I can’t wait to return.
